1. Go to Manage > Labregister.
  2. Select the group in which you want to create a category.
    1. Click Add category on the left side of the screen, on the category list bar.
    2. If you are creating your first category, the Add category button will appear in the center of the screen.
  3. Give your category a name to identify the kind of items that will be registered. For example: Antibodies, Reagents, Tissue samples, etc…
  4. By default, the category has 2 mandatory attributes - Item ID and Name.
  5. Click Add Attribute to define more features for describing the items that you add to the category. For example: Clonality, storage temperature, location, hazard level, etc…
  6. Choose a name for the new attribute, set the attribute type, and whether this field is mandatory. Following attribute types are available:
    • Barcode - Can be added as a numeric value and be visualized either as code 128 or data matrix.
    • Date - Dates are displayed in the format DD.MM.YYYY.
    • Dropdown - This allows the creation of a predefined selection of attribute values. All character types, such as letters, special characters, and numbers can be used here.
    • Hyperlink - This allows the display of URLs in the Labfolder inventory.
    • Short Text - This allows all character types, such as letters, special characters, and numbers (up to 200 characters).
    • Long Text - In contrast to Short Text, here up to 16000 characters are supported.
    • Number - Allows numeric values only! If hyphens or units are also displayed an error will occur. Please note that Labregister indicates decimals with a dot (so 1,25 will be displayed as 1.25).
  7. Click save.
  8. Click the floppy disk icon at the right top of the screen to confirm the creation of the category.
